How to find free photos for your blog on Flickr

Adding a photo or two to your blog post can really spice things up and add to the overall reading experience. But where do you find photos? The photo sharing site Flickr is a great source of free photos that has served me well for a long time.

Go to the creative commons section of Flickr.

You will see there are six different categories of photos that you can use. The one with the fewest constraints is the Attribution License.

Attribution means: You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work – and derivative works based upon it – but only if they give you credit.

Be sure to make a note of the photographer’s name before you post it on your site.

Add this text somewhere on your post: “Photo Credits (creative commons): photographer name”

I like to link to the photographer’s Flickr profile when I list their name.

Once you’re done, you can add a comment below the photo you used on their profile and say thanks. Be sure to include a link to your post, too.
